LGB is a three time Dallas Poetry Slam Champion and a nine time National Poetry Slam team member. He has been writing and performing poetry for over fifteen years. He has performed and featured in cities such as Chicago, Seattle, Charlotte, Oakland and many more. He has also shared the stage with many known poets such as Sunni Patterson, Rudy Francisco, and more. He is a poet that hails from the city of New Orleans, a city that gifted him with the talent to write about social issues, love, injustice and comedy. He is currently working on his new cd titled, The Art of Cometry.

Candy has been writing and performing poetry for over 20 years.  As  the current Slammaster/Executive Director of the Dallas Poetry Slam Organization, she has maintained a six year partnership wish Word Space Non-Profit literary organization where she servers as Adminstrator and Facilitator of social media affairs. She is also the Individual World Poetry Slam Coordinator.

Ms. Jolie has been singing and performing poetry for over twenty years. She volunteers by working with the city's youth to help hone and perfect their skills to make them productive citizens. When she's not gracing hte stage, she will be the one answering all of your lovely emails and keeping the organization running behind scenes.

1994 – Dallas Poetry Slam was established by Clebo Rainey. The Dallas Poetry Slam Organization for the past 22 years and have added such accolades to our movement such as three time national finalist. 


2001 – Dallas Poetry Slam becomes the National Poetry Slam Champions. Dallas Slam continues to rank in the top 20 semi-finalist out of 72 teams every year. This makes Dallas Poetry Slam the only Texas slam team to date to win a National Championship.


2016 – Dallas Slam poets have won the Individuals World Poetry Slam competition. As recent as 2016, a Dallas Slam poet ranked 2nd and has gone to compete internationally in Paris, France.

In 2005 GNO was named “One of the 64 People Making Dallas Hot” by D Magazine.  Not content to pick one media or medium, GNO has dabbled in a broad range of artistic endeavors that have allowed him to work on projects ranging from music videos to corporate marketing campaigns. Along with his premier poetry performance troupe OIL (Ordained In Lyrics), he has done voice-over work for McDonalds and other corporate entities. He is currently a higher education professional and serving as the Asst. Director of Student Activities at his alma mater UT Dallas.

our history

DPS is the only poetry organization in Dallas to host events that have broken and set records in the country. Our motto is “One Slam, One Movement” because Dallas has a vibrant poetry and arts scene, diverse in population, and local resources, we were able to successfully host the 2017 Women of the World Poetry Slam. Dallas is the 9th largest city in the US, and the Dallas Arts District is the largest urban arts district in the United States.

A poet from North Carolina residing in Dallas, Javon Rustin has been on the 2015, 2016, and 2017 Dallas Slam Team. He has had the honor of opening up for renowned poets such as Sunni Patterson and ranked top 20 best performance poet in the country at IWPS 2016. He has a new CD entitled "Bleeding Spirits". He has performed, featured, and competed in cities across the country. When he is not in a notebook or on a stage, Javon is a teaching artist and workshop coordinator.
